The Machinist Ruler Game - Practice Machinist Precision Steel Ruler Reading
Instructions:
- With this interactive game, you can learn and practice how to read and use a machinist's precision steel ruler with English graduations (1/32 and 1/64 inches) and Metric graduations (0.5 mm and 1 mm). The game also includes decimal rulers with 1/10 and 1/100 inch increments.
- You can play this game using either a mouse or a touchscreen.
- Press the Play Game button to begin.
- A measurement to select will appear above the machinist ruler.
- Move your mouse (or slide your finger on a touchscreen device) over the ruler image until the green bar aligns with the correct mark for the displayed measurement.
- To lock your answer, click on the ruler (or lift your finger on a touchscreen device).
- For each correct answer, you will be awarded points. Your score is displayed on the left side of the Results Bar below the ruler.
- Points are awarded based on the table below.
Level Time Limit Points 1 20 seconds 10 2 17 seconds 20 3 14 seconds 30 4 11 seconds 40 5 8 seconds 50 6 5 seconds 60 7 2 seconds 70 - Each time you correctly answer 10 measurements, you will advance to the next level. Your current level is indicated in the Results Bar below the ruler image.
- The timer is represented to the right of the score in the Results Bar. As time passes, the bar will get shorter.
- If time runs out before you make a selection, you will receive a strike.
- For each incorrect answer, you will receive a strike. After three strikes, your game is over. The number of strikes you have received is indicated on the right side of the Results Bar below the ruler image.
- After an incorrect answer, in Find mode, the game shows the correct answer with a red line. In Type mode it tells you what the correct answer would have been.
- Click the Settings button to adjust your preferences for the game.
- Timer: The default setting is On. Select Off to remove the time limit and have unlimited time to answer.
- Sounds: The default setting is On. Select Off to mute all game sounds.
- Graduation: The default setting is "Inches Random" (includes 32nds, 64ths, 10ths, and 100ths). Another random setting is "Metric Random" (includes 0.5 mm and 1 mm). You can also select any individual graduation.
- Fractions: This setting applies only to the 1/32 and 1/64 graduations.
- The default setting is Mixed. In Find mode, questions can be simplified or unsimplified. In Type mode, you can enter your answer in simplified or unsimplified form.
- Simplified: in Find mode, the game shows questions in simplified form (e.g., 1/4 instead of 8/32), and in Type mode, you must enter your answer in simplified form.
- Unsimplified: in Find mode, the game shows questions in unsimplified form (e.g., 8/32 instead of 1/4), and in Type mode, you must enter your answer in unsimplified form.
- Mode: The default mode is "Find". You can also choose "Type". In Type mode, numbers appear below the ruler, and you can enter the correct answer by clicking these numbers or using your keyboard. Once you've entered your answer, click "Submit Answer."
- The current settings are always displayed in the lower left-hand corner of the ruler image.
- If you refresh your browser, all settings will revert to default, and your score will reset.
