The Micrometer Game - Learn to Read a Standard, Imperial, Inch Micrometer
Instructions:
- With this game game you can learn and practice how to to read a standard imperial, customary micrometer screw gauge.
- This game can be played using a mouse or a touchscreen.
- Press the Play Game button to begin playing the game.
- Using your mouse or finger, click or tap and hold the thimble (handle), then move it left or right until it reaches the correct position on the sleeve (main scale).
- Then use the minus and plus icons below the micrometer to precisely control the "sleeve main", "thimble scale" and "vernier scale" on the micrometer.
- When you think you have the correct answer, click or tap the "Submit Answer" button below the micrometer.
- For each correct answer, you will be awarded points. Your score is displayed on the left side of the Results Bar that appears below the micrometer.
- Points are awarded based on the following table.

Your current level is displayed in the Results Bar.
- The timer is displayed to the right of the score in the Results Bar. As time passes, the bar shortens. It begins green, turns yellow, and finally turns red when only a few seconds remain.
- If you have not selected the correct measurement before the time runs out, you will receive a strike. After three strikes, the game is over. The number of strikes is displayed on the right side of the Results Bar.
- Click the Settings button to adjust your preferences for the game.
- Timer: The default setting is On. Select Off to have unlimited time to submit your answer.
- Sounds: The default setting is On. Select Off to mute all game sounds.
- Mode: The default mode is "Find". You can also select "Type". In Type mode, numbers appear below the micrometer, and you can enter the correct answer by either clicking these numbers or using your keyboard. If you want to make the game easier, select "Training" mode. In this mode, you can see the current values of the main sleeve, thimble scale, and vernier scale. It's a great way to experiment, move the thimble and watch how it affects the readings.
- Vernier Scale: You can make the game easier by turning off the vernier scale.
- The current settings are always displayed in the lower-left corner of the micrometer.
- The settings you have selected are stored in your browser for the duration of your session. You can refresh your browser to start a new game, but if you close it, the settings will reset to default the next time you visit the game.
