The Vernier Caliper Game - Learn and Practice Reading a Vernier Caliper

Instructions:

• Use this game to learn and practice how to use a Vernier caliper.
• The game can be played using either the imperial (inch) scale or the metric scale. Numbers at the top of the scale correspond to the imperial system, while numbers at the bottom correspond to the metric system.
  
• This game can be played using a mouse or a touchscreen.
• Press the Play Game button to begin playing the game.
• A measurement to select will appear above the Vernier caliper.
• Click or tap and hold the slider with your mouse or finger, then drag it left or right to reach the correct position.
• If you can't land exactly on the correct spot, use the minus (-) and plus (+) icons below the Vernier caliper for precise control. You can also use your mouse wheel.
• There's a small yellow arrow pointing to the lines matching perfectly.
• When you think you have the correct answer, click/tap the Submit Answer button below the Vernier caliper.
• For each correct answer, you will be awarded points. Your score is displayed on the left side of the Results Bar that appears below the Vernier caliper.
• Points are awarded based on the following table.

• Each time you correctly guess 5 measurements, you will advance to the next level. Your current level is indicated in the Results Bar below the Vernier caliper.
• The timer is represented to the right of the score in the Results Bar. As time passes, the bar will get shorter.
• If you have not selected the correct measurement before the time runs out, you will receive a strike. After three strikes, the game is over. The number of strikes is displayed on the right side of the Results Bar.
• Click the Settings button to adjust your preferences for the game.
  • Timer: The default setting is On. Select Off to have unlimited time to answer.
  • Sounds: The default setting is On. Select Off to mute all game sounds.
  • Unit: Choose between the inch (imperial) and metric versions of the game. By default, the game is set to inches.
  • Least Count: When the inch unit is selected, you can choose between 0.001 in or 1/128 in. When the metric unit is selected, you can choose between 0.02 mm or 0.05 mm.
  • Mode: The default mode is "Find". You can also select "Type" mode, where numbers appear below the vernier caliper and you can enter your answer by clicking these numbers or typing with your keyboard. For an easier experience, select "Training" mode. In this mode, the current value of the Vernier caliper is displayed between the plus and minus buttons.
  • The current settings are always displayed in the lower-right corner of the vernier caliper.
  • The settings you have selected are stored in your browser for the duration of your session. You can refresh your browser to start a new game, but if you close it, the settings will reset to default the next time you visit the game.
