The Pica Ruler Game - Learn To Read a Pica Ruler

Instructions:

• With this game you can learn and practice your ability to read a pica ruler (also known as a printer's rule or line gauge).
• This game can be played using either a mouse or a touchscreen.
• Press the Play Game button to begin playing the game.
• A measurement to select will appear above the pica gauge.
• Move your mouse (or slide your finger on a touchscreen device) over the pica ruler until the green bar reaches the mark for the displayed measurement. To check your answer, click on the ruler (or lift your finger on a touchscreen device).
• For each correct answer, you will be awarded points. Your score is displayed on the left side of the Results Bar that appears below the pica points ruler.
• Points are awarded based on the following table.

• For every 10 correct measurements, you will advance to the next level. Your current level is displayed in the Results Bar.
• The timer is displayed to the right of the score in the Results Bar. As time passes, the bar shortens. It begins green, turns yellow, and finally turns red when only a few seconds remain.
• If you have not selected a measurement before the time runs out, you will receive a strike.
• For each incorrect answer, you will receive a strike. After three strikes, your game is over. The number of strikes you have received is displayed on the right side of the Results Bar.
• After an incorrect answer, in Find mode, the game shows the correct answer with a red line. In Type mode it tells you what the correct answer would have been.
• Click the Settings button to adjust your preferences for the game.
  • Timer: The default setting is On. Select Off to have unlimited time to answer.
  • Sounds: The default setting is On. Select Off to mute all game sounds.
  • Ruler Length: The default setting is 12p0. Other lengths you can select are 6p0, 18p0, 24p0 and 30p0. Selecting the Automatic setting will adjust the ruler length to fit your browser window. Note: If you select a length that exceeds the width of your browser window, it will be automatically adjusted to the longest length that will fit on your screen.
  • Mode: The default mode is "Find". You can also select "Type". In Type mode, numbers appear below the pica points ruler, and you can enter the correct answer by either clicking these numbers or using your keyboard. Once you've entered your answer, click "Submit Answer." Note: In "Type" mode, the starting time is 20 seconds, and it decreases by 2 seconds after every 10 correct answers.
  • The current settings are always displayed in the lower-left corner of the pica ruler.
  • The settings you have selected are stored in your browser for the duration of your session. You can refresh your browser to start a new game, but if you close it, the settings will reset to default the next time you visit the game.
